Hey Persuasive Writers,
Here is your chance to put into writing what you would like to see happening in this class. Briefly post a comment by clicking below. In your comment, you should write a paragraph which outlines your ideas, and more importantly, provides some kind of argumentation and reasoning for what you would like to see put into affect for this class over the next four weeks. Consider what sorts of assignments and readings you would like, as well as class activities.
Please consider: this is a writing. You should not be using slang, abbreviations, or language suited to texting or IM'ing. Proofread your work.
Read earlier posts as well. You may want to agree or disagree with someone!

Over the next four weeks, an emphasis on teamwork should be placed. The students in the class should split into two groups, each group with an opposing side of one argument. While many students may be used to generating their own ideas on certain subjects, teamwork will add a whole new dimension to the program. Not only will students have to generate their own ideas, but the students will also have to contend with the ideas of their peers. This will force students to at least consider alternate viewpoints than their own and make those same students develop more intellectually.

We proposed that the writing assignments should be short, so that we learn how to be concise. In class, we should partner up so that we can share our ideas. We should also have large group discussions for readings in class so that we can learn different arguements. Last but not least, we should have games (ex: Apples to Apples) in class so that we can be interactive and learn at the same time, and have fun!
We agree with the first group; teamwork is an excellent idea and it would be a fun excercise.

The goal of this class and the assignments included is to maintain energy and excitement for the class and coursework. Our group proposes the following ideas, each of which, we believe, will maintain excitement for the class. The first is no more than 30
minutes of reading homework each night; that is, readng homework in addition to the written assignments. The result of more than a half hour of homework will be that most students will not complete the assignment, and excitement for the class will be lost. The second suggestion is that the class not take on the form of a lecture. This would be boring and unenjoyable, wear us down, and remind us more of the school-like classroom. We rather everyone discuss and participate. Our third proposal is that most of our writing assignments be completed in class. This way, we are not put in a position to need to spend most of our time on assignments in the evenings. Our fourth suggestion is class outside in the shade on a few nice days. This creates a more relaxing and stimulating environment and helps retain our energy for the class.
We also agree with the ideas posted by the two groups and think that the second group's idea is extremely relative. It is important to be able to argue and persuade in a short and efficient fashion.

I meant relevant, not relative...

Over the next four weeks, we belive that an emphasis should be placed on ACTIVE learning. We have sat in classes getting lectured all year; we do not wish to continue being lectured. Active learning will help us all to participate and retain the information that is taught to us. We also believe that all assignments should be fun. Studies have shown that people learn through playing and retain more information when it is learned in a fun environment. This is why we believe that our assignments should be fun. finally, our group believes that our readings should be interesting. We all wish to further improve our writing through reading, but, if the book is not interesting, we may not read it, thus no learning will have taken place. I agree with Hauteng's statement about short writings. This will help us in debates, and other types of group based discussions.
What we would consider to be a great and rewarding expierience, in terms of this course and ASA in general, is to emphasise a different type of learning outside of what we are currently use to. Agreeing with Francis and his group, teamwork should be included in some of our class activities. We suggest that in terms of homework we should be given as little as possible so that we wont be burnt out or grow bored with the course. We strongly believe in shorter assignments so we could learn how to perfect our work by getting our view across by saying ass little as possible. Lastly we believe in the power of discussion which will help us get an idea of what others are thinking and their reaction to certain topics, this can and will help us to know our audiance better and see things from their point of view.
